I had the pleasure of using an Edwin Jagger chrome double edge razor recently, for a few months. As a first-time double edge razor user, I was genuinely surprised with my positive experience and have since thrown away all all of my cartridge razors. I figured I might as well since I have no intentions of ever using one again!
After being told by a lot of my friends to try shaving with a straight edge razor, I figured I’d give it a shot, but never went through with it. In order to learn the ropes of wet shaving, I figured a double edge razor was a better place for me to start.
To be completely honest, my first shave went poorly. I had difficulty creating a good lather, I wasn’t used to using the right angle for the blade and the entire experience resulted in a nice razor burn. Time to give up and use the cartridge again, right?
As someone with sensitive skin, I wasn’t surprised by the experience, since I knew there was room for improvement. The second time around, I read up on proper shaving techniques and began perfecting the wet shave. My sensitive skin did well, I got the best shave of my life, and I actually enjoyed shaving for the first time in my life.
I’m still wanting to try a straight edge razor and feel like my experience with a double edge razor has led me to that point. Never in my life did I expect to make shaving a hobby of mine, but here I am, and my interest is only growing!
